RSSC SCOOPS JSE AWARD

RSSC scoops JSE Award
SIMUNYE – The Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation has scooped an Integrated Reporting Merit award in the regional category during the 2018 JSE and Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa Integrated Reporting Awards in South Africa Johannesburg.

The awards took place at Montecasino’s Ballroom a few days ago.
The ceremony recognises the importance of good governance and integrated reporting in the face of a rapidly changing business world.
Entry in the competition offers companies the opportunity for peer-to-peer comparison and appraisal against international best practice. The highly contested awards are the longest standing awards in South Africa and have recognised excellence in corporate reporting across a number of categories since 1956. In addition to JSE – listed companies, state-owned companies, the public sector and NGOs also participate. The awards are open to companies and organisations in the SADC region.
RSSC Managing Director Nick Jackson said; “The awards are something we look forward to right from the beginning of our annual Integrated Reporting process. In a way, the awards encourage us to improve our use of the established guidelines of integrated reporting, so that we can maximise our chances to win and be recognised for good reporting.”
“The awards, whenever we win, are an excellent platform to remind our stakeholders that we are a socially responsible company and this also helps us show that good reporting is high up on our agenda. It was good to receive a merit award this year.”
Moreover, Jackson said Integrated reporting compels RSSC to focus on the whole picture and therefore giving the company the ability to proactively consider risks that the company might face, such as changing customer preferences, stakeholder issues, climate change and natural resource insecurity.
“In the six years since we began integrated reporting, our thinking has been re-wired, our planning process has transformed and stakeholder issues and the management thereof have been given a new focus. This has resulted in excellence is some areas of our operation,” Jackson added.
This event is undoubtedly an important event for Southern African companies as more and more businesses recognise the correlation between good corporate governance and a well-run organisation.
